The Out Of Towners Guide To Exploring Cuse Cheap

Recently I was approached to put together a list of places for out of town visitors by a co-owner of ER Lacrosse for their upcoming Upstate LAX Jam tournament and after thinking about it, I liked this idea as I know CNY does host sports tournaments, school events, college visits and other festivities locally. In fact I liked it so much I thought I should put together a blog post to help them and others.

Obviously we here at Cuse Cheap know Central New York is a big place and a lot likely depends on what area you are located within the area. That said, we wanted to make a list of a few affordable options for the families to eat and local attractions for the family (and a couple night life/bar destinations for the adult crowd) during down time.

Tully's Good Times-

The MOST Syracuse is a fun, interactive museum for the entire family located in downtown Syracuse at 500 S. Franklin Street (in the Armory Square district). With a proper ID, NY state teachers and active duty military and veterans can see exhibits for free. Also, every first Saturday and Sunday of each month, those with a Bank of America card will get free admission.

Downtown Nightlife-

For those who are looking for a very nice dinner or an adult night life or just take in the view of downtown Syracuse, the city is broken down into several districts. Two of the most popular for bars or restaurants are Armory Square and Hanover Square which have plenty of options from sports bars to beer pubs to casual and fine dining as well as tasty sweets and local coffee shops. The list is far too many to name here and just depends on your tastes. My advice: do as I do and put on some comfortable shoes and walk around to view them all or check out our page and social media sites (listed at the end of the post) for more specific deals and events as they occur.

Another area worth looking into is Clinton Square. Most weekends during the summer/fall season, you will find there are festivals held there frequently. And in winter you're visiting during the winter months, you can enjoy a fun time with the kids or romantic evening with a loved one ice skating when the water fountain is transformed into a skating rink (at a very affordable price).

Local 315 Brewing-

Website Facebook Twitter

Why Local 315 Brewing?

Locally brewed beer is becoming more and more frequent in many areas and Syracuse/Central New York is one such area. We are lucky to have several local options and one of them is Local 315 Brewing. You can find them in Warners, NY at 3160 Warners Road. They have happy hour specials Wednesday and Thursday (4-6 PM) and Fridays (3-5 PM) and get beer pints for only $4! You can also find some local music on hand from time to time so check out their website and social media for more details on that as well as the beers currently on tap.

Wegman's Playground & Good Dog Park-

Playground Website Dog Park Website

Why these parks?

How about a local park to just hang out in for some fun for you, the kids or even your dog family member? Well here are two options to pass the time. The dog park is great for those with dogs who love playing with other dogs but maybe not the best option for young kids since most activities are centered on the pets. If you have the kids and need to let them unleash all that energy, the playground is a great option and includes options for kids who may have certain disabilities and do not want to be left out. Please check out the website for hours, guidelines and more details before planning a visit.

AMF Strike 'N Spare Lanes-

Website Facebook

They feature 72 lanes, free wifi and an arcade as well as some great specials throughout the week. You can also join leagues, visit their sports bar or pro shop or arrange a party here.
